FSRDC Data
Conducting research in the MRDC can provide researchers with several advantages relative to analysis with publicly available data. Firm and establishment level data from the economic censuses (e.g. manufactures, services, transportation, and wholesale and retail trade) are available only through an RDC. The Census Bureau has created panel datasets covering virtually all business enterprises in the United States along with specialized files to link firms and their employees.
Other data available include specialized surveys on topics such as medical expenditures, pollution abatement, research and development, and crime victimization. Both economic and demographic data (at the individual and household level) include detailed geo-spatial variables, such as Census block. There is virtually no top or bottom coding of MRDC data. It is possible to link MRDC data sets to other data by matching individual respondents or geographic areas.
More information on data available in the FSRDCs can be found here.
